My Comments
This is another device that straddles the line between module and effect. It is a voice tweaker (?) I bought this new and to be honest it misses in a couple of respects. I'll just get this out of the way, never used the looper, I have no use for it. I'm sure it's fine, I have a Boss RC-1, which is older, and does a great job, but I it's collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. I wanted to use the E-4 with my current set-up with my Juno-di, but it is not ideal. Firstly using it through the mic input it is SUPER noisy. It works better thought the external input, but then I don't have the use of my vocal effects through the Juno (vocoder, distortion, ring modulation). This was something I was sure I heard that the E-4 had. Other effects. I was sure someone said that there was distortion on here (there certainly is not), and I had hoped for ring modulation. The effect here are boring reverb, 2 delays, and chorus. And they cannot be used together, just one at a time. The auto tune seems to work ok. Maybe it's the way I sing but I can't seem to get that harsh stepping that you hear on pop songs. The harmonizer works good except I wish there was a volume for the other voices, as the harmony seems to be louder than the main vocal. There can be up to 4 voices (this is including your original note as it may be effected). The vocoder seems pretty mild compared to my VC-03 and V256, but it does have a choice of carrier sounds (2 saws, square, pulse and noize). Then there is pitch change and formant change. These are the most used functions for me, but I really wish they had a center indent for both of these, or a bypass button. It really sucks trying to get them back to zero on the fly. It makes me think this was meant more as a toy than a perfomance unit. Then there is the scatter knob, while fun, I don't think it is an effect I would use a lot. This basically takes the input sound, chops it up and randomly spits it back out. Anyway it is fairly good, but does miss the mark in several respects and I can only imagine it will be featured soon on Bad Gear.
